Guitar amps that sound good with bass.

This can be:

1. Run with a bass amp somehow.

2. Rick-o-sound stereo setup.

3. Or just from bass to guitar amp.

Either way, I'm curious to see how you guys use guitar amps for your bass rig.

I have a Brownsville 15G guitar combo (15 watts solid state, 1x8" speaker) that sounds really cool with my Squier P-Bass/D'Addario Chromes. I only use this at home, low volumes. Sounds really, really good, but I wouldn't gig with it. MAYBE mic it up and record with it, but I dunno.

I've run the neck pickup of my Rickenbacker into my Eden WT400/212 rig, with the bridge running into stepfather's '72 Dual Showman Reverb head into the 210 with a Tubescreamer out front. Great sound, but not one I could bring anywhere easily!

Hi there,

First post! I'd be interested to find out how this thread turns out.

The rick-o-sound is quite an obscure tool in terms of finding people who actually use it in a live or recording situation (I'm getting one made by Bayou Cables) but I really want to explore what sounds can be made using a rickenbacker bass as a stereo instrument.

The only thing I've found so far in terms of getting a good bass sound out of a guitar amp is using an all-purpose amp like the old Hiwatts or current production Hiwatt clones.
I play guitars through a Reeves 50 and I also play bass through it at low volumes. The issue as I understand is the output of the amp and the freq range of speakers. My Reeves has a 12 inch speaker modelled after the old Fanes and they sound great at low volumes but start to struggle anything higher than bedroom volumes.

I think for a gig you will need at least 200 watts into a bass cab to get anywhere.

Great first post.

The reason I started is I'd like to run a Rick-o-sound (when I get my Ric) and I'd also like to run a guitar amp (maybe a 6150?) in addition to my bass amp...

Plenty of guys run the treble pup through a 100 watt Marshall and the bass pup through their bass rig. I have ran mine through an old Peavey SS and I didn't care for it, It'd probably sound great through an old tube amp like a classic Marshall though. Sometimes I run it through my spare bass rig, just to limit the effects to the treble pup or something. Usually I don't "Ric-O-sound".

I travelled for about 3 months using a Peavey Reknown (160 watts into dual 12s)

never had complaints or issues.. not the same oomph as a properly ported enclosure.. worked for the job.
