Lightbulb Guitar Head w/ Bass cabinet?

Opinions?

Any recommendations for me from those who have tried?

Thinking of one of those new Acoustic G120H heads upon an Acoustic B210 Neo. Mainly for a small rig loud enough for small-ish gigs.

Don't rip me a new one!

Unless the new GC branded "Acoustic" is severely under-built it should work fine. They have a 30 day no-fault return don't they?

Here's the thing: Why? I mean I get it when somebody says "hey my buddy gave me a guitar amp, can I use it with bass"--that makes sense. But why on earth would you go out and buy a guitar head?

Taking a wild guess here, but, I think it's got something to do with guitar players being so loud with a 45 watt tube amp, that, maybe, just maybe, it would work for bass guitar ?

Curiosity. And if it sounds terrible, I can still return it.

The B200H bass head is the same $ and probably the better choice. Plus, then you can outgun the guitard lol! You can always turn down and FWIW, my B100 barely keeps up against my guitard's 40watt Rogue and just gets blown away by the old 22watt Fender reverb.

Acoustic G120H? Meh!

If you want to try a guitar amp, then at least, go for a REAL one. Look for a Fender Showman (pre 1968, ideally), for one, much better, example.

Oh gosh, this is headed in a bad direction. Guitars are not louder with less wattage because the amps are better, they are louder because treble frequencies are easier to move.

Also, guitar amps are designed for guitar (eq and effects) and bass amps are designed for bass (different eq frequencies that are more usable in the bass range).

Let's add this up.

1. Puny output transformer.

2. Low power.

3. Wrong EQ points for bass.

What's the upside?

I never understood this either, until I read that John Stirrat from Wilco does this. His bass sounds unbelievable in the studio and live, IMO.

However, I think I'll still with my Genz for the time being.

I dont think there is any advantage to this but if it must be done, i think the best option would be an all tube head with as much power u can find ( silverface bassman 100, peavey vk100, crate blue voodoo) and a deep vented cab

Stirratt uses a vintage Twin Reverb (only, as far as I know) to record sometimes, but never live. He's all over the place live. Used an Orange back in the Yankee days, went through an Ampeg spell, and now is playing a one-off from Schroeder. But yeah, he doesn't make a habit out of it.

Primarily because it's a bad idea.
