Hey guys and gals

had

hartke 7000
genz benz shuttle 6.0
acoutic circa 1970's model 150 head

now have acoustic 136 - 140 bass head with 15 inch speaker, and about 100 pounds!--

and just got an AMPEG 2x10 combo the BA500

bought it used....think I did ok!

its plenty loud, and I can hook an external cab to it.

still playing around with the sound, and getting used to it.

DEFINATLY likin' it!

one, any suggestions on settings? I play hair metal / 80s music

two, I am getting an extreme buzz around A# to C# when I have it cranked up.

because it is used, I cant take it back of course. so, take out the speakers and the head, and check the integrity of the "box" itself? and reseal everything?

any suggestions on how to get rid of the buzz?

thanks! glad to be part of the ampeg club....(maybe a pf350 or pf500 next)

It's not a bad amp, I had one. The buzzing is you pushing the 2 10's too hard. Get a matching 2x10 cab and that will do it. It's a bit of an oddball, internal 210 is 4 ohms, so you'll need a 4 ohm 2x10 to pair with it. I actually paired mine with an Ampeg SVT 18, and although not ideal, it worked, and was LOUD.

if I put a 4 ohm extension on it....wont that pull things down to 2 ohms?

is that ok?

and why did you get rid of yours? likes/dislikes, if I can ask?

Go on Ampeg's website and download the manual PDF. Should be under the support section. It will tell you what extension cab specs are required.

IIRC, the BA500 owner's manual should be in the Discontinued Items page on the Ampeg website.
I owned one for a time and found it to be a little "bottom-shy" WITHOUT an external cabinet (2x10 or 4x10)...

It goes down to 2 ohms.

Here's the link to the manual: http://www.ampeg.com/pdf/BA500.pdf

"Your new BA500 bass amp combo provides many outstanding features which make this a true performer’s bass amp: 350 watts of power at four ohms, 500 watts at two ohms, a 45 degree tilt-back cabinet design, total tone control, and rugged construction."

Yes, 2 ohm stable, so a 4 ohm ext cab. I got rid of mine because I had 3 bass rigs, and needed to lighten my load a bit. The other 2 I just liked better. The BA500 with an ext cab is a loud, punchy amp. They had a head only version which enabled you to save a few eq presets. The combo can be hooked to a footswitch to engage the graphic eq and mute, (2 button). It's like having a 2nd channel, or can be set up as a boost.
