Half Stack (GK Head) to Compete with Two Guitar Players

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a new amp/half stack which will mostly be used in hard rock/metal-ish situations, rehearsal room and gigs. I was hoping someone with GK700RB/GK1001RB heads will have some advice on my choices below.

Thanks in advance -

GK 700RB II with GK Neo 410 (800w/78lb)

GK 700RB II with GK Neo 212 (600w/51lb) Possibly add a GK Neo 112 if needed.

GK 700RB II with Ampeg Pro Neo PN-410HLF (850w/60lb)

Or, would the GK 1011RB II be more sufficient for these cabs?

Also, would a GK1001RB II at 700w not be compatible with a GK Neo 212 cab at 600w?

I've owned and used a 700rb and Neo 410 and they can get some serious volume. But, as with most GK amps the RBs lack a bit in the very low Qs. Consider that if your using a 5-string or down-tuning. The 4/5 switch may help you with that.
But its still a good choice, especially if you get that cab up off the floor about 24" or so. You'll lose some floor coupling but it'll put the speakers closer to your ears. (You do wear hearing protection, dont"you?)
I've not tried the Ampeg HLF 410s but I think they are considered to be better in the low end than GK cabs.

Depends on what the guitar players are using. If they are both using halfstacks, I suggest you invest in earplugs and a maybe even two neo 212s or maybe a 412. You say you are playing metal so I am assuming you guys like to be insanely loud.

We do down tune, C# or a step and a half each string but I also play with another outfit which is standard E tuning.

They will both have half stacks and I do try to keep them from playing too loud etc. I can't stand when people just turn up their volume instead of asking for the other to turn down.

I like 4x10 but perhaps I should check out the 2x12's, can always add another 1x12 if needed. My goal here is also to travel light.
