Handle ideas for a heavy amp

I'm picking up an Ashdown Mag Evo 300 II combo amp later today in a trade deal. It weighs close to 100 pounds! I'm thinking of adding a handle and a pair of recessed casters so I can tilt it back and move it easier like a fridge. Looking for DIY ideas and suppliers for a handle and recessed casters.

Thanks for the info tbird, but the amp already has recessed handles. What I'm looking for is something like a telescopic luggage handle and wheels so the amp can be more easily moved by one person.

That is more along the lines of what I'm thinking. Would it be sturdy enough for a larger 100 lb amp? How tall does the handle extend to?

38.5 inches

Don't know weight limit, 100 is probably pushing it, sorry.

A hardware store would probably be a good bet.

I have one of those handcarts for years and its absolutely awesome. Folds down easily to stick in the trunk, handles curbs no sweat and is really easy to maneuver.

Highly recommended!

parts express has spring loaded flip out handles for pretty cheap.
(I bought several pairs for no other reason than I know I'll be building something someday).
Though that would require routing the cabinet a fair bit.
I find these type of handles to be my favorite for heavy loads, especially if mounted fairly low.

Hand carts are awesome. Plus you can use it for all the other gear, too.

I did this on my Hiwatt build, the amp can be carried by one or two persons, and lifting the head on a stack of cabs is not a problem with the extra handles, the amp is only 64 pounds though.

I know this is an obvious solution but I just thought it would be more convenient to have something that was always attached to the amp. I just picked the amp up and it's a beast! I can barely carry it by myself. Sounds fantastic though and it's in like new condition.

The problem with attached wheels, IMO, is that they are often too small for anything but the smoothest of surfaces. I say get a cart with at least a 6" wheel.

Well you can always just try both and go with what works best for you.

those fold up dollies are not really practical for loads over 50 lbs or so.
I love them for light duty shuffling of office equipment, computers etc. But any bass cab that I will have trouble moving by myself, those carts will flex to the point of losing control. Just my 2 cents.

My experience is that they will hold up to 100LBS without much difficulty. I routinely haul around 80LBS with mine... YMMV.
