Hands down - which is the best 4x10 and 2x12 on the market?

Price is not an issue. Size is...I'd like it compact but powerful. Weight isn't so much of an issue if the cabinet is compact.

I'm guessing we are talking Bergantino/Aguilar/Genz or similar. I just want to buy the best then leave it at that!

Please chime in with your thoughts.

A 4x10 is always going to be kind of big - no way around that.

I *love* my NYC Epifani 4x10, but they aren't for everyone. Heavy with insane lows... more than I can used, truth be told (I'm selling it!!)

I cannot say definitively which is the best, but the Genz Benz UB 212 is a great cabinet. It will take 600 W @ 4 Ohms, so it's not exactly a wimp, but on the other hand it's not totally burly either, like some 4x10s can take ~ 1000 W no problem.

There IS no "best." It's all subjective. What I think is best, you may not like and vice versa.

(+1 just giving you a hard time )

5sg.

Bag End or ear candy bass bombs, IMHO. Try everything you can, and then get what you think is the best ... That's how I found my wife! I got the best woman, but cabs aren't one of a kind. Cheers.

I realise its subjective, just asking for everyone's views! Im going round in circles on the subject.

For my $, I like the Aguilar GS212 (or 112 for that matter).
To my ears it just sounds better than anything else I've tried which is plenty. Fat creamy low end that isn't out of control, present detailed mids, tweeter that is very adjustable (which some people don't realize how much that can help in weird sounding rooms). Also have an Epifani UL410 and I much prefer the Aggie. Easily blew away the Schroeder I tried. The GS412 is def my all time favourite cab ever!
I play an older maple board J and a Nordy 5 with Big Singles and use a DB659/Stewart rig.
For what it's worth.

There are lots of quality cabs around but after having owned a lot of different gear it's vital that you match the cabs, amp and bass that you have - some just click while others don't. Not always logical?

Anyway I would say the Berg AE212 and maybe a Berg410 cab but there are plenty nice 410s like Genz, Epi, Aggie, Glockenklang, Tecamp, BagEnd etc, lots of great choices but will they all work with your other gear?

For me it's the Bergs - LOVE the AE212 & the HS410 tho I haven't tried the AE410 - I Suspect I'd dig that maybe a li'l more than the HS. But I'm fine for cabs at present. :-)

I tested a lot of 410s and not one was like the Glockenklang. I took the TakeFive because of the weight.
They're so powerful. I'll never need more behind me.

I use Musicmans and USA Fenders for basses. 4s and 5s. So a mixture of fairly modern active and traditional passive.

Amps? Currently a TC RH450, MB LM3 and an Orange AD200 b, and contemplating a Shuttle 9.0.

I tend to favour nice smooth yet punchy mids, full lows, with a nice smooth high end (eg not ganky treble...if anything a more vintage voiced treble...it's there but not right in your face). The cabs I own all have nice treble reproduction, but I just really would like one more, an ultimate 4x10 or 2x12!

I'm considering Berg and Genz at the moment. I'd like to go neo, but keep the sound as traditional as possible.

Thanks

I'm no professional, but personally, I would find it hard to beat my 2 Aguilar GS112's. They sound great to me, built great, 600 watts, easy to transport and they work well with my Thunderfunk. Not only are they a good value, they sound soooo good to me.
I have yet had a problem getting a good sound that works in the mix.
What's not to like?

In fact, I like them so much, I'll be purchasing a couple more after Christmas.

To my ear, Genz cabs are tops. The Ubers really speak to me, but I'd take a NEOX or XB3 any day.

If you shared with the group a bit more information, you'll get more useful feedback. Example:
  • Budget
  • Intended application
  • priorities (weight/cost/tone)

Well, hands down, the BEST 4X10 I EVER played through was the Ampeg PR4X10.....but (1) they are no longer being built and (2) you need to be in shape to cart one around....IIRC 135 pounds..

Cheers!!
