Last night I played a jam night and used the house bassist's SVT. I have a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. While these are very different amps, and I understand that the Shuttle won't really be capable of that sound, I'd still like some advice on how to best get that vintage goodness? I'm playing through a '76 Ibanez P bass with GHS flats. Playing through that amp last night... well there's nothing quite like an SVT. I get it now! |

You can cop a decent SVT tone by engaging the mid scoop global filter, and cranking the bass and low mids. It's better with the 12.0 since you can dime the midscoop filter and shape the high mids more with the eq.
It really is pretty close. I've A/B'd them many times.
I gig with the shuttle...

And without an SVT in the room, no one will know. I love my tube amps. But man I love throwing my Shuttle 6.0 in the pocket of my gig back and not even knowing it's there while carrying it in. You can dial in some really nice tones with the thing..... not SVT, but really nice tones. I switch back and forth regularly. It even wins out over my Walkabout every now and then.

Can you put it in laymen's terms?
You should know I play G&L 2500s the fretted has Fender Flats on the Frettless has LaBella black tape wounds on it.
Both basses have the actives removed and each PU can be single coiled I/B/O in any combonation.
I'm pretty happy with the sound I get with the EQ set flat, but alwys looking for a tweak.
Thanks for any help
Love& Peace

Crank up the input gain til it's flashing occasionally and add a lot of 200hz. A LOT (like +6db at least).

| | | | There are several things you can do to get a vimntage tone out of a Shuttle.
#1 Passive Bass.
#2 No Tweeter.
#3 Bass Boost switch engaged.
#4 Turn up the preamp gain to get just a little hair.
#5 A good pedal can do it as well, I used an OCD.
Hope this helps.

eq in "o'clock" format:
lows: 2
mid boost: 2
mid freq: 8
highs 10 to 12
signal shaping:
LF on
Mid on

| | | | My Shuttle 9.0 can give me good, vintage tones. The truth is the head is irrelevant. It is all in the cabs. Its all vintage through an 810e. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
