Hartke 2x10 Cabinet Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up this cabinet locally for a great price (I can't turn down a cheap local cabinet) and I've never seen anything like it. I'm inclined to think that it's NOT a Hartke but I do know that the drivers are in fact Hartke.

Has anyone come across a cabinet in this configuration?

Also... it appears that one of the speakers is distorting with high frequencies... any idea how I might resolve this? I'm debating putting new drivers in, but I may just cut my losses.

Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

definitely a hartke...older one. larry hartke might be able to help you with the speaker problem. he lists his cell phone number on the website (apologies if you see this larry, really wanted to call you but this was a very bad week for me in many ways).

but personally, i'm waaaaaaay more interested in that oliver b200! you can join the portaflex club if you have an oliver amp

Jimmy... as you can see I have the Oliver for sale, but I am SOOOO close to NOT selling it. I played through it last night to see what was up with the speaker, and MAN that thing sounds awesome. I can get some very "modern" tones from that thing, not to mention the true old-school thump that you'd expect. The 2 channels are so versatile, it's really awesome.

Hey RobertUI,

I have no idea what that cabinet is??? I don't remember making anything like it. It could be some kind of prototype cabinet from the '80s...there was a bunch of experimentation going on back then. It looks like a Transporter style cabinet but with XL corners. If you would like new speakers for it give me a call and I'll see what we can come up with for you. 201-680-8153 Cell

Larry, That really is awesome customer service, and after I get through looking at the cabinet, I will give you a holler.

The strangest thing happened yesterday though, there's no longer a distorted sound. NOW, there was a hole in one of the handles where the input jack had been wired, and I filled it with silicone. I'm thinking that this is where the distorted sound was coming from. I'll keep everyone posted as to the progress.

It looks like a cut down cab from an old 210 combo. The handles are placed suspiciously high. I think somebody sawed off the top part of a combo and recovered the top.

yep, holes in the cab can often sound like a broken speaker. learned that the hard way with my b-15n.

Wow... that makes perfect sense. Maybe Larry can confirm that they made a 2x10 combo? My bass instructor (back in the day) had a 1x15, but I don't ever recall a 2x10. The most odd thing to me is the fact that this cab is 4ohms. The coolest part of it all though, is that it sounds AWESOME with the Oliver head!

I didn't say it wasn't possible, just that I didn't recall it. Come to think of it, I don't recall MANY things from High School.... I wonder why?

Actually, that's really awesome, it certainly explains the lack of input jack (which was then stupidly mounted poorly in the handles) Mine looks a little different, but I'd say that you're dead on! Thanks for that!

= This was directed at Gallien-Krueger amps and especially their customer service.

Ah... I get it now (I'm a little slow on the uptake these days). I do want to point out, that I was just having fun anyway, and didn't take it personally.

I'm becoming a big Hartke fan AGAIN! I dearly miss my trusty HA4000 that was such a purely powerful amp.
