Hartke 3500 Hissing problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Guys

I am playing through a Hartke 3500 into a 4x10 and 1x15 Mesa cabs. I am getting a constant hissing through the cabs. I tried different leads and cab combinations so pretty sure the leads and cab are fine. Hiss also comes through without the bass plugged in so not a guitar or jack lead issue and increases as I turn the volume up.

Any ideas on the problem would be appreciated...

Cheers
Paul

do the cabs have tweeters? sometimes the tweeters will hiss its very common in ampeg cabs.

The 4x10 has a tweeter but the 1x15 doesn't. They are Mesa Boogie cabs by the way not Ampeg. Seems a bit unlikely that both cabs would develop a hiss simultaneously as well...

try a different head and see if it stops. or try using your head but using one cab at a time.

Have tried one cab on both inputs and connected both singularly and parallel but still getting the hiss. Seems to go down when i turn the amp tube input down so might be a valve issue. I haven't got a spare head at home at the moment but will try ASAP.

When I has a 3500 the tube channel was cleaner than the SS, so I'd suspect the tube.

All amps "hiss" to some extent - you just don't always hear it once you start playing. Taking the treble down will lower the hiss level.

Hmmmm, don't know what to suggest. I own the same head with an VX 410 cab and no hissing, but the cooling fan is way too loud, IMO. I play mainly at home since I am just a beginner really and the noisy fan is a distraction, but is normal for this head, I do believe. Do you find that to be true? Other than that, the rig is plenty powerful and has enough low end for my needs at this time.
