Hartke 410: VX vx. XL

What's the difference in sound between these two? My local GC has both. An XL for $249 and a VX for $199. Is the XL worth the extra $50?

Thanks. I'll be running a Hartke HA4000 head.

The XL is a better cab to me but if you can find a 4.5XL better yet.

XL is way better. I owned the VX for a while. If I could do it again I'd get the XL.

... but NOT the Transporter!

I've played through the VX 410 and 810 at a couple different rehearsal studios and always got a good sound out of them. I never really pushed them so not sure how they'd handle high volumes. I like the XL series too.

It is a 4.5xl I'm looking at for 249. (Just checked)

the VX has paper cones, and the XL has the Hartke standard aluminium cones,
so the XL is going to sound a bit sharper and brighter,

and damn that thing is cheap, when I bought mine they were about 700 dollars,
(maybe I just got a bad deal :P)

I had an XL back in the mid 90's, probably one of the best cabs I ever heard. Back then they couldn't handle too much power, I think mine was rated at 350 watts (matched to the 3500 head I also had). I wouldn't hesitate to get the 4.5XL...no hesitation at all.

Prior to their recent HyDrive series, the XL was the Hartke cabinet. Transporter and VX are budget models. Not for everyone, but a great road-tested cabinet.

rated 240 watt @ 8 ohm says the label at the back of my XL's ... not really power hungry

Ah yes....I remember that now. When I wrote 350 watts before, I just knew that number wasn't correct. But I do remember that the 3500 head did put out 240w at 8 ohms, (350 at 4 ohms), so in that sense, the cab was matched to the head. Thanks for jogging the ol' melon
