Hartke 4200 feedback?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,

I am adding a 2nd cab to the mix, and I am looking at a pretty sweet deal on a Hartke 4200 (4x10) cab.

I am currently running:

Eden WT 1000 (2x 450 Watt Channels)
Eden Navigator
Aguilar 2x12 Cab

I am a little nervous that the Hartke only has 400 watts and the eden channel is 450 Watts. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

The 4200 is a beast, I used to work for the Canadian distributor. Very often I'd hear "This is the best cab I've ever heard!" It's big, though.

The Aggie Cab should blow the doors off that Hartke.

I had one for a while.... was a *alright* sounding cab... until I went Genz!

Hartkes get poo-poo'd on this forum a good bit. They don't deserve it. That 4200 is a great cab if you don't mind the size/weight.

I thought I'd like the Hartke cabinets after hearing them, but after owning one, I was wrong. The problem is that aluminum is the wrong material for a speaker cone because as it moves, it softens. After awhile, your speakers don't sound the same! I also found that their off-axis response was very funky.
I'd find something else that is more consistent!

Larry Hartke posts on here pretty regularly and even puts his phone number on the forum. If I needed amps or cabs, I would have them in my top considerations, especially Hydrives. I'm not too familiar with the tone but I bet they don't sound bad.

Monster cab. Played through one once, I can't see a need to use it other than a standalone cab. No offense, but I don't get the bashing of aluminum. Does paper not wear also?

I owned a HA4000/Pro 4200 rig for a good while and it's a good solid cab. It definitely has the Hartke flavor... I often turned the horn off and still got quite a bright tone, but it did still have some good meat to it and always got lots of compliments. Like Flogger and Kael said though, it's a beast of a cab. That was my only real qualm with it, it weighed 127lbs. It's got wheels, but carrying it up and down three flights (no elevator) sure got to be a chore.

You should be just fine pushing it with 450 watts, the HA4000 I was pushing it with 400, no trouble.

5sg.
