Hartke 5410c

Hey guys,

I bought the Hartke HyDrive 5410c combo little over a week ago and something seems a little off. I get a hissing noise from the amp if I turn the volume over 5 or 6 even with the tweeter off.

Even though I can get quite a loud sound with the volume below 5 by setting my bass eq all the way up, but I'm used to the eq being at roughly 12 o'clock and seting the amp eq to what I want.

Is there any chance that the head is faulty or is this a normal occurence? Should I push my bass' eq all the way up and just not push the volume that much or am I just doing something wrong?

I have searched a little on the site and cannot seem to find a definitive answer.

Sounds like a noisy tube. I know the stock tubes in the LH series can be just a little "hissy" at high volumes. I don't mind it too much, it just comes with the territory. You could look around for a quieter pre-amp tube, they're generally not too expensive. Just make sure it's equivalent to a 12ax7. Maybe some other guys here who have swapped theirs can chime in with ones they have used.
