Hey guys been looking to upgrade my rig. i am looking at getting the hartke hydrive 410 but not sure what head to get, an experienced gigger told me the lh500 would be more than enough but then i don't want to feel limited by power or to just one cab so was going to go all out getting the lh1000 but then don't want to pay that much more. was hoping to get some insight or pros and cons of my situation?
Cheers |

I *love* my LH500 for any gigging scenario, it stands up to any other head I have used, including GKs, SWRs, and Ampegs. |

| | | | LH1000 is the best money you will ever spend.
True, a little heavy but I hopefully got another 20 years before that's a deciding factor in the buying process.

| | | | I'm looking at A new rig as well, and I'd give the HA 3500 a look. It's got better EQ than the LH1000, but I really don't know enough about either of them to make any comparisons. I'd still give it a look, It's supposed to have AMAZING tone quality, and you can pick one up for about $200 used. That's what I'm getting.
Again, though, I have no experience, and just get whatever you want. I just wanted to tell you to give it a look if you hadn't, see if you're interested.
I'd like to try out one of those Hydrive cabs, but unfortunately, I'm on a tight budget. |

I will say that the 3500 has gone through a number of iterations, all of which have different track records for tone and quality. If you do want one of these amps, try to find the earlier ones. They're marked on the front panel with "Transient Attack" and the word "MOSFET":

| | | | I actually heard that the MOSFET one was a disaster for tone, in all the reviews I read for it. Granted it was only one, but it was AWFUL. gave it like a 3 out of 10. YMMV, though. I'm not chancing it, I'm getting a regular 3500. |

That said, I love the HX 4-10 so much that I thionk I would use with any damn head. Right now, I primarily use the VT pedal through the Line 6 POd XT pro (on tube pre amp flat setting) with a BBE Sonic Maximizer.. The trick is that I turn off the tweeter on the HX(hydrive) 4-10 cab....Lovely lows and thump with no worries of either: 1) breaking my back 'cause it's light or 2) blowing speakers with the 1000 watts headroom.
Get the cabinet, order a Custom cover (you will want to believe me) and relax..Will work with anything, solid state, hybred or tube

Marc | Truer words have never been spoken Marc. Hartke hit a home run with these cabs! I'll take these over an ampeg cab any day! |

The tone was useful. I believe this amp was the first to have both a tube and ss pre that your could blend. You can grit from the tube. I am not a big fan of graphic EQ. If you see the Cream reunion video, you see Jack's amp has an frown face EQ on his Hartke.
A thing about Hartke....way back, the company was cutting edge and independent. Sam Ash Music store chain, a prototype for the Guitar Center, bought Hartke. It is one of the companies under Samson. If you are from downstate NY or LI, you are familiar with Sam Ash.
Now imagine Guitar Center buys GK or Genz Benz. Imagine what happens to the product line.....just saying.... |

These days I still use the 2 heads but downsized the boxes to retain the 2x15 with a 4x10. If I was starting again, I would pick the LH1000 into the Hydrive cab at 650 watts. |
