Hartke drivers dust cap buzz

Sign in to disble this ad
My home practice rig is suffering from what seems to be this fairly common syndrome in one or more drivers. It sounds nasty. I'm pretty sure this is the problem rather than an actual blown driver. For one thing, the buzz is intermittent.

Anybody got any quick fixes for this? Is it possible just to repair the existing dust caps by somehow refixing them in situ or do I need to replace them with new ones?

If it's the aluminun cone ones, check carefully where the metal cone meets the cloth surround. That's a common spot where those start to separate or get cracks in the aluminum.

Thanks for the input, guys.

To reglue, do I just try to go around the existing adhesive line with superglue and reseat the dust caps? Or should I try to remove and replace?

I'd just try glue around the edges first and see if that holds, got to be pretty handy with a razor blade to remove and replace.....chances of screwing something up are equal or greater than fixing it, IME of course.
