I was using a Hartke 3500 and VX 4x10 for the last 4-5 years.

Pros:
-Solid construction
-Enough volume for most gigs (much large and you'll be in a large PA anyway)
-Reliable,
-Cheap,
-Good retro warm tone.

Cons:
-Heavy (compared to my neo 2x12),
-Doesnt provide that 'hi-fi punch' that some of the newer TecAmp/Genz Benz/TC Electronic gear does -
-IMO can be a little muddy and lacking clarity.

That said my main band is a large jazz/funk/fusion outfit.

All in all, a seriously GREAT first amp purchase, esp at that price.
