I have the Ha 220 which has all the same controls if I'm not mistaken. This amp is actually pretty versatile and you should have a problem getting a wide range of tone. First of all theres the dual preamps which can change the tone quite a bit but it sounds like there's an eq situation here. You should have the 10 band graphic EQ which has it's own on off switch, start by setting everything flat. Next there's the high pass and low pass set these at 12 oclock. The tone should now be pretty neutral, if your still getting too much high end I would look at your preamp settings on your bass. 9 times outta ten when I'm not getting the tone I want from my rig it's because I've forgotten to readjust my tonal controls on my bass. These amps are very transparent and it's mostly the natural sound of your bass coming through. If you're still not getting it, then try boosting the low freq's of the graphic eq sliders, then maybe boosting the low pass while cutting the high pass. I play with the tubes at about 2 or 3 oclock and the Solid state at about 1 oclock, I keep my eq off (Instead I use a boss bass eq). I keep the Low pass knob at about 1 oclock and the high pass at about 11 oclock. As long as my bass preamp and pickup blend knobs are set right I can get a great phat tone with still a lot of definition. Hope that helps. In summary, set everything flat and adjust from there...

With the EQ that the 3500 has there's no tone you can't get. Just fool with the graphic sliders, that's what they're there for. For more growl turn the gain higher, the master lower.

+1 just get a cup of joe a stool and about an hour or so of time and mess with the sliders. Also just some advice is put a little more of the SS in your mix seems to growl a little better to me.
