Hartke Kickbak 12 or ???

Sign in to disble this ad
First post, and I'm a rookie...

I'm shopping for an amp for our church. Small room, small platform, keys, 2 guitars and adding bass. No drum kit yet, sometimes congas/bongos. There are two possible basses, an entry level Ibanez (GSR200, active) and a p bass (passive) clone. I think the best setup for us will be balanced out to the sound board, using the amp as a monitor. I played through some amps and the one that caught my ear and eye was the Hartke Kickback 12.

Does this sound like I'm on the right track? What other amps or setups should I consider?

Thanks for your input and ideas!

Chuck

I used a KB-12 for awhile in a church setting, took it out on several out-of-town gigs & even schlepped it along on a trip to Mexico. VERY nice combo- surpisingly loud for the wattage, clear & punchy and even does a low B string decently, IMO/IME. If you can get a good deal on one, I wouldn't pass it up. I never used the onboard DI, so I can't comment- I say this as IME many onboard DIs are noisy or otherwise not useable.

Edit: Oh, & welcome to TB.

That should be fine. Most of the time you don't need much volume in a church especially a small one. I used an Ampeg
BA115HP for years at church (actually still own it) and that is not a loud amp. If you like the sound you get from the Kickback 12 and it has a decent D.I. out to make the sound guy happy than you should be good to go. Hartke seems to have a good rep on these boards and Larry Hartke himself posts on here and will answer questions.

Either one of the basses you mention should not be a problem. I have never used one of those Hartke's with a 5-String so I have no idea what the low B will be like.

One other thing to consider when buying a combo for a church is to find out if the worship team will ever use it to play out of the church. That would be the only issue with the Hartke. You may want to consider something that can run an extention cab if needed.

Depending on what you got to spend they're some good 12" combo's out there. Right now I use a used Markbass 12" combo.

I use a Carvin kickback 15' for worship. I always have the volume very low. I have on one occasion used it in a outdoor setting and it was loud enough for that. I think the kickback type of bass amp works great for worship. Just use it as a personal monitor and let the soundman adjust how much or little he needs out front.
