Hartke LH1000 question
 

I have the opportunity to get a mint condition used Hartke LH1000 for under $400. It's a 1000 watt amp. What size watt cab would I have to use with it. I'm trying to learn about amps and don't fully understand watts and ohms yet, but this deal sounds to good to pass up.

2 hartke hydrive cabs, 8ohms a piece equaling a 4 ohm load, giving you our full 1k watts

What if I just want to start with one cab, can I get any size?

Yes, just be aware that you have enough power to shred the spkrs. Be careful with volume and low eq.

I have the 500 watt version,and did my first gig with it Saturday. With an Ampeg Heritage 810 cabinet,I never got the volume past 3. A friend of mine has the LH 1000 and he runs it stereo into an Ampeg 810 classic splitting the speaker output between the upper and lower sections of the cab. Gives him some room to work with on the volume.

I bought mine new for 350 and couldn't be happier. I run it with a 8 ohm gk 410 neo 800 watt cab. No need to ever go past 4...lol

Sounds nice. I know I don't have to but I'm kind of thinking I want a Hartke cab. I'd like to keep it all in the family.

I second the Hartke Hydrive 410. Get one to start, add a second for more headroom later. However, if you're looking to go cheaper, the Hartke xl series is great. Again, just remember how much power the cabs can handle so you don't break stuff.

I have the LH1000 and Hydrive 410 and think they match up nicely.

Wouldn't do the XL series cabs. The used market is where you ought look for the short term. A Peavey or Ashdown or Carvin 4x10 will come to you, in great shape, and better able to handle the LH1000 than can those old style aluminum cones.

The Hydrive cabinets? They are far better at handling the LH1000's output. If I were buying new, I'd very likely go for them.

I pair mine with the Hydrive 410. I've paired it with Ampegs, GK's and Carvins, but with the Hartke 410 it's a match made in heaven. And the cab isn't terribly expensive either.

The beautiful thing about the LH1000 is unbridged, you can safely run miss matched ohms on each side of the the amp with the balance at 12 o clock. It's not suggested, but it's doable. But hey, I'd go Hartke because they're all available in 8ohm. Stack 2 of those 410's and level buildings in a single pluck.

If you want to go 1 cab, do the Hydrive 410, with the head unbridged. You'll be running around 500 watts more than safely. I should know. I play this same rig aggressively 3-4 nights a week, all year, for the last 2 years. My rig is in mint condition with no problems. Volume never goes past 3.

Just got back from Motor City Guitar, my local guitar shop. Played an LH500 thru a Genz Benz cab and it sounded really good. Had the volume up to about 3 and it was plenty loud. Might change my mind and go with the LH500 to try to save some bucks. I do still have to get a cab too. Also tried a GK MB500. WOW what sound for such a little amp.
