hartke LH500 + BFM jack 210?

Sign in to disble this ad
New hartke lh500 seems to be a very interesting head and jack is even more interesting cab, but would they go together?
That hartke´s old school pre with passive tone stack seems to be working more than fine with direct radiating cabs but would it be enough to tame jack´s big 250-800 hz bump if needed? Would boosting lows and highs result in evening things a bit? Lend me your ears, i dont have opportunity to try it before i build jack and buy hartke.

I don't think I would roll with the Hartke's limited eq with a Jack.

You don't need to "tame" the 250-800hz bump so much as scoop a little bit of it out to taste, which is tough to do with the Hartke's limited mid targeting.

The biggest issue the Hartke has is you can't add upper bass with the fender tone stack. So if you want to add some boom to your sound it's hard to do so. Lots of that area is typical of "warmth" too.

That´s what i was afraid of with fearful/lh500 combination but as the jack is naturally powerful in upper bass due to the horn loading, i thought the question would be just how to pull some excessive mids out.

You might ask on the BFM forums if anyone's using that combo.

I would think that if you like the lh500 sound, you'll like it from a Jack, but I can't speak from experience.

Yes, it would probably be more appropriate place to look for an answer but I just hoped someone here used lh500 or even old bassman with cabs like jack and omni.

Those tone controls might work well to flatten the midrange bulge, but much would depend on the center and width of the midrange control. Wonder if Hartke could supply any graphical info re: where those controls act.

It's a fender tone stack, so the mid is variable.

Get an EQ pedal. Boss makes a very nice graphic eq pedal that is cheap.

I wouldn't expect to find them on the website, but thought you might be able to get more info if you contacted Hartke. This is the kind of info their designers would have (response graphs with knobs in various positions).

Apparently it's not quite a Fender tone stack. This from the LH500 manual: "when you turn all the EQ knobs down, the sound will go completely off". I assumed there's some interaction between the controls; that doesn't mean they couldn't effectively "flatten" the response curve of the Jack. Not that "flat" is magical... obviously, the ultimate test is, can you get a sound you like when you use them together. Doubt we can answer that for the OP.

Always an option.

You are right about it, a good external eq like boss or mxr pedal is cheap solution to open more eq possibilities. Boosting a lot of lows on the amp to scoop the things a bit would probably put a lot of content below 60 hz or so and would make drivers to reach their excursion limits, while sucking a lot of power.

Just to clarify - I´m not looking for hi-fi tone profile, more for a stronger (but not exaggerated) upper bass presence and I´m somehow sure that jack can give it in spades, the thing is I never played a bass through horn loaded cab and I just want to know will the passive tone stack be helpful if the mids go a little wild.
