Hartke LH500 Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

So I just bought a new Hartke LH500 and a Hartke 410XL cab for some live gigs.

I just received the cab yesterday and plugged it in for the first time... uggghhh.... it sounded horrible.

At very low volume there was a horrible distorted sound coming especially from the top right speaker. My first inclination was that the speaker was bad out of the box as it seemed to be isolated to the one cone.

I don't have another bass amp head to compare but I do have a P.A. that is 125w and 8ohms so I plugged it into the speaker and it sounds fine, granted a little quiet.

So now I am thinking it has to be a problem with the LH500, although I can't imagine what it could be.

If anyone has any help or advice to offer I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!!!

If the problem is isolated to one speaker, it can't be a problem with the LH 500.

My 410XL had the exact same problem when I got it new. My shop sent it back, I received a new one, not a single problem since then.

Right.. which was my initial thought as well.

Any idea why it would sound fine with the P.A?

Maybe the PA amp did not drive the speaker hard enough to cause voice coil rub, hard to say.

+1 - when I had a distortion problem with my LH1000 head, Larry responded in a few hours with his number. Can't beat Hartke's service.

I moved the amp to work to test it with the PA and then today back at home it seems better, still maybe slight distortion, but noticeably better....?

It's good but I am worried that maybe something is loose in the cab?

Could a lead be loose?

I think the head is fine... No noise at all when not playing
