Smile Hartke LH500 tube change

So since I got my Hartke LH500 I've been reading up a bit about tubes and how they affect the sound and performance of amplifiers.

I realised that since the amp is made in China it would probably have a cheap 'n nasty Chinese tube in it, so I decided to swap it out even though I'm really happy with the sound of the amp.

I decided to start with a tube that's cost effective but well regarded, and due to limited local availability I got myself an EH 12ax7.

this morning I woke up early before my rehearsal to do the swap. I opened up the amp, and lo and behold, sitting in there was an EH 12ax7!

The moral of the story... Hartke LH series amps have Electro Harmonix tubes in them. Thats part of why they sound so good.

Hope this helps someone else out there!

I thought that EH were cheap and nasty Chinese tubes. I checked and it turned out they are Russian. Has anybody tried something really good like a NOS Telefunken or a Tesla E83CC in their LH500?
