Has anyone been disappointed with the GB Streamliner?

An amazing amp story:
* Tons of hype from both the factory and potential buyers before one can be heard
* Lots of pre-orders
* Big bang at NAMM
* A number of TB'rs have received and like them

Anyone feel that the amp is over hyped vs. what it actually delivers? Often times a feeding frenzy allows for an initial glowing report that sometimes fade after the honeymoon.

All I want is a lightweight SVT or VERY similar tone with more than 300 watts. Neither my SVT-CL or Walkabout fit that bill; maybe time to sell gear and join the SL ranks?

I tried it yesterday. It doesn't sound like a SVT, and yes I have owned one. However it does look like a Star Trek burial pod and I expected Spock to pop out any moment

I can only imagine most are going to be in the "honeymoon" phase for a while yet.
I think you're going to have to go try one for yourself... advice that I plan to take very shortly

I'm a tube head guy, but for smaller gigs I've been running an F1/VT Bass/Berg 112. I'm betting the SL is going be a better choice for me, but I'm not really expecting a 6 pound SVT - if it comes anywhere near that universe I'd be happy. But no plans to sell the big iron just yet :lol:

I want a backup amp that sounds different than my solid state amp (Eden Navigator), is portable, takes an AUX in, has a headphone jack, 400-500W at 8 ohm minimum
SL looks good to me... hence I'm on the wait list

If you can find those features on another amp let me know.

Ampeg Micro VR does all of that. Aux in, headphone, doesn't sound like a solid state amp.

Should have added 400-500w at 8 ohms minimum

There is a ton of hype around this amp... Heres why
People are looking for a micro that sounds like a tube amp

LM Tube, GK Fusion dont. My Eden Navigator has a tube, very very subtle difference.

I have a sl900 and a vt deluxe and a acme lowb2 at 4ohms. I have no doubt that about anything I would like should be in there somewhere. I just haven't taken the time to find and write down settings for everything yet. I'm toying with the idea of setting up something where I could run bass-to-sl900 and bass-to-vt-to-sl900return and toggle between instead of having the vt inline. Not sure yet how to try and do that.

It looks nice but I already have the GBE-1200, SVTCL and others. The company seems to make good products, so if it fits your needs then maybe worth looking at . +1 on the Star Trek Burial Pod......

Agreed
Ampeg 3Pro, Trace & SWR don't sound like the real deal either
I've spent a lot of hours comparing the Walkabout to an SVT through a Berg or TL606 cabinet with an Ampeg dealer selector switch and it's as close as I've ever found; do many GC's have SL's in stock yet?

I don't think GC will carry them, not a GB dealer. I'd check the GB website for dealers in your area.

I went to GC the other day & tried the LM Tube 800. Very little difference vs the LM III. I spent a hour going back & forth. That said GC sold the LM tube 800 for $625, pretty good deal but a SL 600 can be had near that too.

Kjung clips & Ed Friedmans clips on Youtube sell this amp

I haven't run an SVT in awhile, but I have recently run Aggie DB751 in a backline, along with some other Aggies and Ampeg stuff. Not sure which models of Ampeg - if the club has a backline I just plug in, set everything flat and play since FOH is going to dictate most of the sound anyway. I can say that the S900 is everything the DB751 was. Well, everything except the weight. I just bought a second GB amp (Shuttle 9.0) for backup/diversity and have sold everything else based on the great tone of the amp and the even better customer service from the company.

I feel weird in that it seems like I'm the only one whose not head over heels for this amp and its probably the insane amount of hype its getting thats prompting this post. I think its good sound and small size make it great for the traveling musician but for those of us whose gigs are more sporadic and local here's my take.
Ive only had it for about a week so maybe Im still getting a feel for it but I dont like its clean sound as much as my Mesa and I dont like its grindy tone as much as my Ashdown. Its closest to my db750 but for that one tone I like the Aggy better also. Given, there is a lage size difference between these amps but its not like any of them weigh as much as an SVT!
If you have to have a micro its a good choice but if you can handle 20-30 lbs I like the big boys better.
To me it just seems a little congested and if you try to eq that out I dont love the sound as much. I know if I posted this on the streamliner board I'd get assaulted but I think a somewhat dissenting view is needed.
I'm gonna give it one more week and Im still not loving it I may put it up for sale.
As it stands its a great backup head as I can fit it in a gigbag so thats pretty cool. And everyones ears, technique and sounds differ so...
FWIW, IMHO, etc

Jim C, you know, if you run the Walkabout at 2.6 ohms, it's already pushing the 500 watt mark, and down to 2 ohms your at around 550 watts. Don't "give up" on that WA just yet, even though by all accounts, the Streamliner may very well be a big power alternativre.

You should go ahead and post on the Megathread... it's useful to hear all views.

Hey Jim, in my mind, "lightweight SVT" has always evoked BDDI plus a lightweight power amp in a rack bag.

200 watts @4 ohms?? Not quite in the 500 watt ballpark.
