Has anyone tried the Carvin mb 12?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to downsize to a combo amp and the mb 12 seems to offer a lot for he price. I was wondering if anyone had bought/tried one of these? And also thoughts on the down facing 12" bottom.
Thanks Guys and Gals
Pez

No experience here with one, but a happy BX500 head owner here.

Looking at the Carvin bass amp web page they now offer a MB210 for the same price as the MB12 combo. You get another speaker (2-10") in an 8" taller cab, for the same money.

I have one and also the 115MB extension cab. I believe it is a very nice combo with lots of features. I only added the 15" to make the combo more versatile for situations needing more volume. I can't speak to the 210 but Carvin does a great job. It is one of 4 rigs, I have and am pleased to own it.

MB12...

I have one and have been very pleased. I particularly like it with my fretless. The added mid-range cone seems to help the "singing" quality I like. Played the fretless and MB12 with a soft handed jazz drummer, keys, and a vocal trio and the Carvin was a great fit. It's really not enough amp for a rock or guitar band without an extension cab. I have used a Schroeder 15L under it, but I almost always switch to my Streamliner and bigger cabinets if I need more oomph. To my ears, the MB12 lives on the modern side of the sound fence and is more clean than coloring. It has more mid-bottom punch than I expected, and stays pretty "b-string" solid at reasonable volumes. For small or acoustic gigs, or when I need a very small rig, the Carvin's really wide tone shaping ability, ample connections, decent compression, and quality workmanship have been well worth the very reasonable price (IMHO...of course )

Man,I've been leaning towards this one. Simply for the 3-way cab. But,man. I just wish it had more power. The tone you describe is what I've been wanting in a new combo, for the living room & band practice.

Couple hundred watts is going to make that 12 do everything it can do. Putting a bigger amp in the combo wouldn't make it any louder on it's own. Might help to better drive ext. cabs with a little headroom though.
