Having to crank the highs on my 115 combo?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have my nemesis 115 combo that I use quite a bit with my jazz bass (both pups/tone on full, coated nickle strings) in my funk 4 piece band, a little slappin" here and there but mostly finger style. I have the Enhance around 9 oclock, freq bass boosted at 2, mids cut to 11, but my highs need to be on max to get any kind finger style zing or decent slappin tone...
Is this a Nemesis amp thing, does anyone else have to crank there highs to max? With my old SWR 350 redface I dont need to crank the highs at all on that amp, which allows me to roll off my tone knob on the bass to adjust between slappin and finger playing. With the Nemesis I have to keep both the bass tone knob and amp highs at max to get any kind of pop out of the tone??

I also use the Nemesis semi-parametic freq to cut a little around at 11 oclock @800hrz. Thanks for any advice!

If the amp doesn't have a tweeter or horn, you'll never get "sizzly" highs. Just a thought.

Even if your 15 has any kind of response that could be considered "treble" it'll be so directional, it'll be zinging past you at knee level and your ears won't hear it.

Adding a highpassed tweeter or some piezo's to it is fairly simple and cheap though.

yeah the combo has a tweeter. I havent gone out into the audiance area in awhile with the combo to check the sound or tone, maybe it is zinging past me? I need to get better at always sound checking myself right before we play, just hard when your running in to get set up and quickly play... thanks guys

I have one of these 115 on the way. Is your bass passive?

Yeah passive jazz bass.. which I thought of installing preamp to give the boost in highs I need at times? But I've been a passive bass guy for years, it just seems a bit extreme to me to have the highs on max? However I do like having the option of rolling off the highs on the bass itself about half way.
Once again tho, I think I need to get back out 30ft or so in front of my gear before a gig and do a quick sound check. I could be suffering from "to close to the bass amp syndrome"!

Yeah, maybe check that your tweeter is working too.
