Head and Cab Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Gallien-Krueger 410MBX cab, which is 400 watts @ 8 ohms, which i got from a friend. I am thinking about buying a Peavey Tour 700 head to power it. The Peavey head runs 500 watts @ 8 ohms. Does this setup run any chance of damaging the cab from overpowering?

I use a multieffect pedal, so its a mix of both, but pretty light when i do put distortion on

Yes there is a chance of damaging nearly any cab if one cranks up the volume loud & long and chooses to ignore the sound of suffering speakers as they wail for one's wallet.

Translation: please listen to the amp and employ common sense & turn down if the speakers start sounding bad.

Tilting the cab back a bit (if it has removable casters just pull out the rear pair) so that one can more accurately hear what's going on will help in a number of ways.
