Head choice? Genz-Benz vs Epifunky vs Markbass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all

Right i have finally managed to narrow down my options to which bass head to buy. This is mainly on price and what they can offer as unfortunately trying all three out is difficult as i live in the uk with very limited retailers . So i was looking for some opinions of the experts to which i should purchase. My main criteria was.

1) portability
2) Value for money
3) Quality and versatility

My three options are

1) Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0
2) Markbass Littlemark 250w
3) Epifunky 300amp

My main use for this is going to be small gigs and home practice. If anyone can offer any alternatives feel free.

I don't believe the Epifunky head was ever produced.

There are a zillion posts and threads on the various MB and Genz heads, and both are high quality, reliable, light and loud. I'm particularly impressed with the Genz Shuttle Max6 and Shuttle 9 on the Genz side, and the Markbass F500 and LMIII on the Markbass side, regarding features, power, and tone.

The Shuttle 3.0 has headphone out and aux in, allowing you to use it to practice silently along with your music. Something to consider if you plan on any late-night practice sessions. To me, it makes the Shuttle 3.0 a better practice tool than either of the other two choices, plus it's the lightest of the 3 choices. The Markbass will probably be the loudest (for gigs) of the 3.

I have no personal experience with the Epifunky, but the Markbass and the Genz are both excellent sounding amps along with being very well-built products.
