Head to match ampeg 810e

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up an Ampeg 810e from a fellow tb'er and am on the car ride home. I am wondering what heads everyone out there is using with their 810e as well as how they like the sound. I'm not certain my carvin will drive it very well.

Obvious answers would be svt classics etc. feel free to use those as your response.

Thanks!

The SVT Classic is a no-brainer; it's probably the ultimate head for the 810!

Personally, I've been toying with the idea of trying out a SVT-7pro with my 810 (currently running a pre Fender SWR Bass 350), 1 kilowatt of power weighing in at 15lbs doesn't sound wrong...

SVT-VR, -CL, -2 Pro, -3 Pro, -4 Pro...

Sorry, couldn't resist. The -7 Pro sounds great on an 810e, but you really need more tubes to bring it to life, so I'd go with the -VR, -CL, or -2 Pro.

currently driving mine with an SVT 2 Pro. ive also played an svt 2(non pro) thorugh it and it sounds as amazing (well, a little more i guess) as the 2 pro. had a 3 pro for a little while and that sounded great too, but then i stumbled upon the 2 pro and decided to go all tube. im picking up an MTI era SVT tomorrow and can only imagine how incredible that's going to sound. ive tried a fender 1200 pro and a couple GK heads through it but nothing compares to an ampeg through an ampeg from what ive experienced so far for the sound im going for
.

haha +1 for good jokes. the bassist of a local band here plays a behringer through an ampeg 810. after witnessing it first hand i highly advise against this setup haha. i couldnt leave the room fast enough to get away from that sound

I can't even look at this thread anymore...the second someone mentions my beloved Ampeg in the same breath with the B word, I go into convulsions and my brain starts to bleed.

I know some folks mix brands, but Ampeg on Ampeg only.

If I were you, well, as you obtain a huge and rather heavy cab, then I'll mot bother to use lightweight head. SVT CL or SVT2 pro wil be the natural choice!
But I guess the 7 pro will do fine.

7 Pro does great with an 810e for sure. I've heard it. And it doesn't look out of place since it's a bigger head than most "micros." That said, a VR or CL looks way better

I'll have to keep my eye out for a good used CL.

My price range on this is really in the $1k range (used preferably)

Has anyone used the SVT450H?

SVT450 is the same amp as the B2RE, Ampegs "bottom barrel" series. Pass. For a solid Ampeg rig, SVT-CL, SVT-VR, or SVT 2Pro,..or the Pro series, 4Pro, 6Pro, 7Pro, etc.

I like GK RB amps on Ampeg 810's a lot more than I like tube SVT's on them. ...and I still own an SVT.
