Head transplant?

Anyone ever take a rack mount head and put in a "traditional" head box with tolex or build one? I think I've seen maybe one. Didn't know if this was something worth attempting...any problems if so?

Depends on the head design. Some require the chassis panels to direct air flow. In any case just leave enough room for the amp to have proper airflow.

No basically either a gutted traditional type head or to build one around it and put tolex to match the cabinets and put handles on it.

Most rack mount amps are deep, so could make this difficult.

I'm planning on doing exactly this with my MB Fusion head - it will kind of defeat the whole "micro" aspect of the head, but sometimes you just want the look of a traditional head, you know...?

Mine doesn't have tolex, but it's a home-made head box for my rackmount, since the head is awkward to carry by itself and I don't like racks. Also, I own no other rackmount gear, so I'd feel silly having a rack just for a head.

John_K has (or had) a really cool rig, a GK 1001RB II installed in a Vox head on top of a Vox cab, all on a wheeled frame. I was awed by the concept and execution!
