Most headphone amps are just afterthoughts that are designed poorly and sound like it. Also, in the long run preamps, pedals, and modelers will come and go as technology evolves and your tastes & needs change but a good headphone amp is a lifelong piece of gear.
Take a look at Cafe Walter and sfx for standalone headphone amps. Then you can use something fun like a VT Bass or Zoom B1 for tone shaping. And don't skimp on the headphones if at all possible. The everyday earbuds and consumer grade headphones rarely do bass guitar justice.
All that to say this: the better your practice setup the more likely you are to practice. Unfortunately the reverse is also true.

At some point you may change your mind about playing out and a small combo would be good to have for living room jams. Then again the 502 is only $40 so its not like its going to break the bank. | Yeah, I think I'll get one of these and eventually(maybe for graduation) a Roland MicroCube. Those seem to be pretty popular around here.

For over half a year or so, I've been happily using a Waves IGTR headphone amp with built-in effects for both my guitar and bass.$30.00 from GC plus S/H,tax...$38.00.Later found it at Sweetwater for the same $30 with no shipping fee.
You can patch an iPod and control the separate volume levels.A second instrument. A second headphone, etc.
**A power adapter is more then advised as it eats batteries like it has a Tape Worm! |

There are Youtube reviews as well. | I figured it didn't. Still seems like a good deal. I'll watch the vids later as I'm on my phone and the headphone jack doesn't work

I would go with a=something like a used Shuttle 6.0.. a bit more but more versatility. Tomorrow always seems to make us readjust decisions today when it comes to gear. At least that has been my experence. |
