I would not want to use any GC era Acoustic amps even if it were given to me. JMHO.

What're the GC era ones? Are they the new ones?

Yes, they are a GC house brand. The "real" Acoustic amps were those made in Van Nuys, Ca. by Russ Allee, Steve Rabe and others, in Acoustic Control Corporation. The GC amps are nothing like the old ACC amps in sound, construction quality, etc..

Here is a link to a site that documents the old ACC amps and cabinets:

http://acoustic.homeunix.net/twiki/b...oustic/WebHome

The new Acoustic USA photo and products are different from what you will see at a GC store and does not relate, really, to them.

Ok, that's helpful, thanks Jeff. I think I'll go try out some amps at the local store, and if I don't find anything good there I'll go with an ampeg ba-108. Or maybe a GK mb200. I haven't decided yet

Ok guys, I've decided. I just purchased an Ampeg BA-108!! I know the rules though, so I'll put up a pic as soon as I can get home to unbox it.

Headphones

FYI. I just bought a set of Nakamichi headphones from an after Christmas sale at Sears for $15. They sound surprisingly good for $15.

Interesting indeed, may have to check them out, by the way, where do I get a splitter to convert from a headphone jack to a 1/4" jack?

Thanks Jeff! It sounds great, I can see why they get so much love around here.

It's a 1/8 to 1/4 conversion plug, not a splitter.

Great thread. Cured me of GAS for now for one of the higher end headphone amps a la Cafe Walter, [sfx], or 3Leaf!
Amazon has great pricing at the moment for the Behringer Xenyx 502.

Additional use of a mini mixer, by the way, would be to solve the challenges of 3 young children with only 2 mic inputs on the Christmas karaoke machine...

I got a Pocket Rockit 10 yrs ago and still use it all the time. It sounds perfect. I have a 15 watt Starcaster amp and I admit its kinda lame. Get a simple headphone amp, you'll be happy. But keep it low so you don't rupture your eardrums. Bassheadphone amps will do that. Low Hz + High Db = Tinnitus, etc.!

Thanks, but I've already purchased an amp and as far as rupturing my eardrums, I won't ever turn the volume up past three.

I'm in the early stages of putting together a "silent" practice rig. As of right now I will be using the xenyx 802 as a mixer. I will go from bass to my sansamp bddi preamp/di to the board and have my laptop going the mixer as well. And the output into the pc for recording purposes. And then studio quality headphones to keep every quite.
I'm still trying to find a set of headphonesthat has great bass response and that are comfortable to wear for a long period of time. Any suggestions?

I have another thread floating around these parts entitled "Recommended Headphones(sub-$50)" I'll bump it so you can find it easier.
