I just have a cheap Behringer 6-channel mixer. Bass -> inexpensive DI box -> mixer. Then I can plug in my iPad/Pod into ch 3/4 and play along. I can also plug my stereo into 5/6 and listen to TV through headphones late at night as to not disturb the toddlers.

I use a Zoom B3 for headphone practice also. I connect it via usb to my PC and can then practice alone or play along with any media from my PC (such as YouTube, mp3's, etc.).
There are several B3 threads over in the Effects forum you can check out for further info.
