Question Help and advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't really know anything about amps , currently I play trough a svt-3 pro and an 6x10" cab (i think) [that's the cab & head they have at church]
currently I only own a ibanez 10 watts practice amp ...useless overall

so going to the "I need help " time :

I have $300 dls

I need a new amp

And I am currently practicing with a new band that has no PA , no bass amp no nothing ...so my 10 watt wont stand a chance against the drummer

I saw in GC a warwick Blue cab 30w , also a Galien Krueger 200w (digital)

Any advice on what to get that would do the job?

I think I'm in the right forum , I really need help

thanks inb4

Why can't you just use the ampeg and cab in your new band?

With 300 dollars, you need to go used.

Perhaps a GK backline 600 and maybe some 115 would get you started? But if you're up against a loud drummer you might want a 410...so even used you might be pushing to get a decent head and cab for 300.

I'm guessing the Ampeg gear belongs to the church?

Used gear is probably the way to go, but maybe try to save another $100-$200 to increase your options.

Used is the key. But if you just have to go new, the Acoustic bass line looks pretty good. I've read a lot of reviews/opinions and they were all pretty positive. You could get a 100 watt rig for around what you mentioned. But I'd really try hard to find used, and at least double that wattage if I were you.
Me, I could get by with 30 watts. But when I play bass it's usually with 'grassers or in church(both with no drums and at low volume).

I agree, you need to shop for used gear, AND you need to save up a little more money. For around $500 or so, you can find a 300 watt amp and a 4x10 cab. That's the absolute minimum rig you want, trust me. No combo amp will do, especially without a PA.

save up and lease in the mean time.... get a decent head first, then lease a cab until you save up for a good one you will end up with gear that you can use and will hold it's value.....buying cheap means that what you get will likely be unsatisfactory while you have it,and hard to sell when you want to upgrade.....some dealers will credit lease payments to a purchase.......watch the classifieds
