Help!!! Ampeg Cabs on a Budget!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an SWR 350X head and I have been looking for the right cabinet to pair it with. The head is rated 350 watts at 4ohms, and 450w at 2ohms(not that I would run that much with it). I have narrowed it down to 2 cabinets that I found used in the local area.

The first is an Ampeg B-410HLF. It is the "budget" version of the SVT-410hlf and has similar specs including the 4ohm rating. It is a somewhat of a drive to get to, but at only $200, I thought it would be worth-while.

The second is an Ampeg BSE-410HLF. It is also 4ohms, but other than that I do not know much about it. It is at the top of my price range at $350.

I play everything from jazz to thrash. My usual "tone" is somewhat "midrange"-boosted with slight gain for harder music (classic SVT, via the Sansamp VT Bass), and I use a smoother approach with softer styles.

What would you guys recommend? Also, if there are any other good used cab ideas in the $0-$300ish price range, feel free to shout 'em out.

If you are refering to the actual B-410hlf : then I suggest going for this cab - the sensitivity is at 99db, while the BSE 410 - unfortuantely, Ampeg took the specs off for that one on the site, but I don't think it was 99db. Are you sure you got the model numbers right? I have yet to see the B-410hlf at ANY store. Any pictures to verify?

I think you can do much better, if you are on a budget, than paying for an Ampeg badge. Don't really know what is going in your area.

The B series cabs are very underrated. The B115Es I use are great cabs with good efficiency and sound. At that price, I'd definitely go for the B410HLF.

The B series don't have speakon connectors, but other than that, they are an excellent value.

I had a B410HLF but found it a bit lightweight - I moved up to the SVT410 and am very happy

Yes that is the right model numbers. I found them used on the Guitar Center Used Website. The Ampeg BSE-410HLF was in Fort Wayne, IN(about 45 minutes from where I live), and the Ampeg B-410HLF is in the Indianapolis store. (About 2 to 2.5 hours from where I live)

I figured it would be better than a GK Goldline 410 and an unlabeled GK 1x15.

Why not go 2nd hand??? more choice... etc... But if U R happy with the B series Ampeg cabs & the price is cool- go 4 it. I'd go 2nd hand myself.

The cabinets that I am asking about are second hand. Look at the first post. I stated the prices. Trust me, you can't find an Ampeg cabinet new for $350 let alone $200.

BTW, would this cab sound good with an SWR 350X and Sansamp VT Bass?

I was supplied that head as backline last weekend. It was paired with a Eden 410. Not a wide range of tone but I could not blow it up. I was pushing it and it handeled everything I through at with ease. I was very impressed.

I plan on using my VT BASS pedal for a little extra diversity, but yes it is an impressive little head.
