Help! Best cab for Ampeg B-2RE?

Sign in to disble this ad
Atm I have an Ashdown 210T and 115.

I'm considering the Ampeg 410HLF but not sure...

Got around £600 to spend at most

410 hlf is a very unique cab. some like it, some hate it. your ashdown cabs would work but if you like the sound of the 410 hlf, there's only one place to get it.

Doesn't seem like you really *need* a new cab, just GAS. I'd run with the 210/15 rig you already own, and save the money for something you actually need.

Indoors...It's a "Woof" box....

i've been using this version (got it used for $400 usd...not sure when this version came out...anyone?)
for 4 years religiously, with different heads....
(ampeg porta 250, GK RB1001 II, the Sunn Coli.880, & now the ampeg porta 800...)

..and IMO, ...it's got the signature growl..when pushed, & it's low-endy... however one 'con' that i've been dealing with,
is that it can be a mudbox in some large reverberant halls due to the front-port...especially at louder volumes,
& 'especially' if you're competing with the low end of your keyboard player &/or the FOH sub woofer....
(thus.... a potential low end woofy, phasey mess..)

and {i might be shoving a subjective opinion to the front here with this, but...}
i personally 'always' keep the horn off... i'd love to rip it out....
i HATE horn tweeters in bass cabs... brittle, harsh, 'out-of spectrum' highs...
totally unnecessary........but that's just me...

I have to say though, that this cab Rocks a (Medium Venue) 'Outdoor' gig,
with no walls to reflect back on itself...you can really push it then...

in the end,..i many-a-time, find myself missing the "tightness" of a sealed cab,...
whenever i'm dealing with the HLF on alot of occasions...
(then again...lol...y'know..it's all very subjective due to different heads, locations, etc... so many factors...

...oh & {chuckle..} ..one way that you can have alot of fun with that B2RE...
......tie 4 blockbusters around it, tightly, with a long fuse,.... light it,.... and run...)
