Help choosing a 4x10 for my Hartke LH500 head.

Just ordered a Hartke LH500 head and I am really excited...

Now I am looking at a 4x10 to go with it... . I would like to get a 400w 8ohm cab now, then maybe add a 2nd later (maybe another 4x10, maybe a 15"), but one step at a time. I have been searching the forum here for 2 days now, and have seen a LOT of opinions and reviews. My brain be spinnin'. Want to get some opinions on what I am looking at, and maybe some suggestions.

Hartke 410XL. New, $315 - new
Kustom Deep End 4x10 $300 - new
GK Goldline 410 GLX $300 - new
Carvin Carvin V410T $150 - used, local CL...

Not sure if I can swing the Hartke HyDrive 4x10... and at 1000 watts, is it more cab than I need for the 500watt head? Would it be worth it to suck it up and get it?

Look for a Hartke 4.5XL cab, it is heavy 100lbs but it will sound good with your set up and should be cost effective too.

If I decided to go to that next price level... And say I knew where to get the HyDrive for the same price as the 4.5xl... would you go with the HyDrive? Is the 1000watts important if my head is 500 watts? Anyone can chime in...

Oooohh... Greg... I was literally about to post "A local store has an SWR Goliath 4x10 for $450 used... where does that fit in?" ... and it can switch 8 or 4 ohm, fwiw... Thoughts?

Is that a good price. assuming it is all working, of course...

I played through a friends Acoustic B600 and 8x10 cab, and liked the sound... price is good... opinions, anyone?ANyone have experience with several of these?

The Goliath would be a definite step up from the budget cabs you listed. If you just play in your bedroom, the cheapos may serve you ok, but if you intend to gig, go another level upwards.

BTW; NO cab can switch from 4 to 8 ohms.....don't ever believe it!!

I misread the SWR site... they are available AS 4 OR 8 ohms, I believe... woops. That was NOT a misrepresentation by the guy at the store... it was my mistake.

See? Good to be able to talk to people who know what they are talking about.

2 votes for the Goliath ($900 new, $450 used... I think I can trade in my ashdown 2x10 and get it down around $300)
1 vote for the Acoustic B410 ($300)
1 vote for the HArtke 4.5xl ($499)
and the HArtke HyDrive 4x10 ($599. $480 as a Blemish, which I have no problem with)

I am leaning towards the Goliath, and think I will go have a listen and closer look today... Any more thoughts on it or the others? Your inputs are valued...

Goliath 3 4 ohm cab all the way! man i love mine.... i mix an ampeg 4 ohm 8X8 with 4 ohm goliath 3 4 ohm cabs biamped.....with a hartke amp....love it! clean punchy tone.. the goliath is a bit smaller cab and is portable, i can put it in the back of my car...

The Goliath I am looking at is 8 ohm... So far, I have more good words for the Goliath than the others... the guy at the store said the same, FWIW...

The LH heads work great with Schroeder cabinets as well, but I highly recommend the Hydrive 410. One is usually enough, but I grabbed two for the rare occasion. Although I am using the LH1000 to push the Hydrive, the GK MB2-500 at 350w had no issues at all pushing that cab to gigging volumes.

Of the one's you've listed I'd also go with the SWR.
I'd also suggest your looking into Avatar's bass cabinets.
You can get alot of bang for your buck with Avatar.

Ill throw in for the Hydrive 410. Im running the LH500 210 combo and then using the 410 as an extension, I have no problems being louder than our guitarist and his 100 watt head every gig.

I think I am going to go for the Goliath. I am going to go test it out on Wednesday (store is closed tomorrow & monday, my HS bands have their Spring Concert Tuesday...) and if it is all good and i like, I think I am gonna take it.

BTW: Guitar Center has the Acoustic B410 marked down to $199 this weekend...
