Help choosing cabinet for my amplifier

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I tried a tech21 Landmark 300 head with a tech 21 b4x10 (8ohms) cabinet and i really enjoyed the sound.

The problem is that i cannot take the 4x10 cabinet to the gigs due to space problems. I thought on buying a 2x10, 2x12 or 1x15 cabinet, which would fit in my car. As examples i can buy something with the dimensions of an aguilar db210 or galien krueger mbe212 (Height or Width cannot be superior to 19.5'' or 495 mm).

Do you guys have any suggestions for the cabinet, which one do you think it is better for the LM300 (1x15, 2x10 or 2x12)?
I play mostly rock, blues and funk but i like a versatility, which was something that attracted me to the LM300. I like to have a clean and precise tone but also some more aggressive valve drive sound in some occasions.

Also when i tested the head with a 4x10 the volume was loud enough for playing live in small/medium size bars, which i need because i only have PA for larger gigs. Do you think that the volume will be enough if i buy a smaller cabinet? Should i buy a 4ohms cab to have the full 300 wats?

If you want you can also comment what you think about the LM 300 head and if you suggest something else in the same price range (800 $)

Sorry for all the questions, any typos and post size.
Thanks for your help

I'd go for a 410 if the size and weight is OK, the difference between a 210 and a 410 can be pretty big. On the other hand, the difference between 8 and 4 ohms would be minor.

I'd go with 2 2x10 inch 8 ohm cabs daisy chained together to make a 4 ohm load. Alternatively, you could do a 2x10 and a 1x15 cab. You'll have to try them to see which you like with the head. Same with brand, see which you like.

I haven't tried that head, but I'd love to. I have a Tech21 guitar amp which has a very good tone.

Thank you for the replies. The problem for me is that H 24'' W 24'' D 16'' is too big for me. Do you know any 4x10 cabs that are smaller and with good sound? Do you have any other suggestions.

Probably i will have to buy a smaller cabinet 1x15 or 2x12 and in the future buy another with the same configuration or a 4x10. For now i can only carry one cabinet.

I am from Portugal, and it is very difficult to try the cabs because music shops are too small and have only cheap stuff.

I don't know what you drive but pretty much anything with wheels on it can fit a pair of 112's.

If space is that limited you'd be a good candidate for a BFM Jack 12 or 15. The horn designs make them very loud. One will get you about the output of a typical 212 and doesn't need a lot of power to do it.
