Help..Crown XLS1000 or Peavey IPR1600

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,I need some advice on which one of these
power amp to buy.
Has anyone AB these amps ? I have read all the post that I could find here and it is still hard to tell which one works better with preamps and pedals.
Some say the peavey shuts down on them and is not bridgeable but has more headroom than the crown.
Then some say the crown needs a lot of input signal to make use of the crowns power but has a bridge mode.
I guess with to much info you go into information overload and it all go back to square one...
I'am fascinated with these light and powerfull amps and would like to try one out.
I have a friend that has a carvin 1500 power amp forsale and it's a heavy weight, but I would like to try one of these light weights instead.
So give me the scoop on the two amps and what preamps or preamp pedals that are compatable with the amps
Sorry I'am not trying to beat an dead horse here...
Thanks Eno

Both should sound the same.

The Peavey can also be bridged.

Yes, the Crown needs higher input than the Peavey.

Headroom depends on which model you are talking about. Both companies have several.

I'm using an Art Pro Channel with a Crown XLS 1000. The Art would also work fine with an IPR.

The crown is a lot shallower. That's a big deal in some situations.

That said for bass I'd recommend the 1500.
