Sign in to disble this ad
Hey there.
Just picked up an Ampeg SVT-CL on Craigslist. Serial is BCYXL90011.
I'm trying to date the amp, but the serial doesn't seem to line up with any of the dating info I've found.
Any help would be much appreciated!

| | | | maybe 1999 from what i found to date mine the 5th digit is the year. but If it is newer ampeg moved their stuff over seas, that may change the ser#'s up.
where does it say its made?
pre 1984 is hard to date from what I understand it could be that era if its old if thats the case 1981-1984 would be your range.
You could try dating from the EIA codes from the components If that helps. post a pic if you get a chance. |

Don't give up! Keep hanging in there, and you will soon be rewarded with lots of big, round booty...

anything else i can tell you? it kicks ass.
svt's are remarkably consistent from amp to amp. can't say the same about the cabs from 98-2006, but other than slight differences with tubes, an old head sounds the same as a new head to me, especially when it comes to cl's. so turn it on and have fun!

The 9 is the 6th digit though, which is what confused me. |

Digit 5 = Year where:
A = 1988
B = 1989
C = 1990, etc.
What happens when they get to Z? OMG they can only make them for a few more years!!!!!

| | | | U = U.K
Y = Europe
Why or better, what is a difference between U and Y amp? |

| | | | ^ Anyone? I'm curious. I have UK model, but is there actually some difference other than code-letter on back of it? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
