Help with EQ Settings & Effects??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, im a big fan of bass players like Mark King (slap and pop) but there is an effect these guys use that i cant find info about.

Im a bass player myself and have been playing properly for a few years and i can play most normal techniqued songs not using slap and pop technique, and im now gunna go over to try and dedicate my bass playing time to slap and pop.

Thing is ive looked at numerous of forums for the answer to 2 questions and i just cant find an answer, i have a Hartke 112 combo amp with a 7 band eq on the front, and i just cant find the sound i want.

1) Mark King must have an effect and lots of slap players use it to get a real, bouncy robotic feel to there play.

I understand most of it is technique, but maybe its not an effect but an eq setup?

2) A bass player underrated by many but Fieldy of Korn with his 5 string slapping.

How would i go about getting that clicky sound , ive tried cutting out all of the mids and boosting the highs and lows but that doesnt do the job really the clicking sound isnt there. Im sure theres an effect they both use.

How would i go about getting both of these souds in terms of amp setup(possible eq setups ?), or what items could i get on a chap basis that might help to achieve these sounds like a pedal or something :/
Any help really appreciated on this

Regards
Mark

The only effect that you might need is compression. I definitely hear a good amount of it with Mark King's live performances. Your EQ technique should get you what you want, or at least close to it. Maybe less bass and more treble? What kind of bass are you using? I don't think it would be easy to cop a Fieldy tone with a P-Bass, but I could be wrong .

i have compression on my amp and its always turned right up to the max, and that doesnt really help tbh. doesnt do what i want but probs does help in the overall scheme of things .

The bass im using is one ive never hear of myself til bought it, its a j&d brothers 5 string bass with actve pick ups bought for £250 relatevly new so not the best bass in the world admitedly lol

Are there any specific Eq setus on a 7 band that i could try
