Help find a bass amp!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Well im 17 and I got a job I dont pay bills and the first thing I want is a new amp =).

Price range $600-$900(max).

Well first off the current amp I have is a Ampeg BA115T and I cant seem to get the tone im looking for out of it. I play Funk, Rock, Jazz and metal.

I mainly only play in my bedroom but I sometimes jam with my friends (guitarist and drummer) but that may change. So the only thing I really want is something atleast 100watts+ and has a AWSOME TONE!

Couple amps I have been lookng at (never played on them) is a Markbass CMD 121P and a SWR Working man pro 15 or SWR workingman pro 2x10c. Between the SWRs would the 15 sound better or the 2x10? Well go ahead and suggest away..

I'd look at something like the new GK MB series. Light, portable, lots of power, great tone.

You should consider the Carvin BX500 see http://www.carvinguitars.com/bassamps/

Get to a music store and try out some equipment. You'll like some and hate others. Now you have a better idea of what you should look for.

You'll get dozens of recommendations for things other people like.

I was in the same position. Best thing to do is look, research, look research, look, research, etc etc etc. Looks for videos on youtube, search for info on here, read reviews. Watch vids of bass amps, get an idea of what you're looking for and then look and research some more.

I did about 2 weeks of research and looking before I decided on my amp. I went back and forth between several different amps. Just be sure that what you pick has what you're looking for.

The risk is that you buy something you end up not liking. That will waste lots of money, because used musical equipment loses value immediately.

Na im not to worried that I wont like it. Im not terrible picky about stuff like some people are. If I buy something offline though ill prolly just buy one that alot of people recommend cause chances are ill prolly like it and if not ill learn to like it .

I must say I prolly wont buy a carvin as already suggested. Reason being I dont know much about them and never played on one.

I suggest the Ashdown MAG series. I have the 210 combo and I love it. It has a built in compressor that sounds really nice, and with 300 watts it will handle just about any situation.

Sounds amazing to me, but thats because I've only dealt with 35+ year old technology since I've started playing bass because of my old silvertone cabinet, this is my first modern amp I've ever owned. Tons of tight bottom end, loud, punchy, just great tone, can't stop playing it.

I would try and find an amp that doesn't color the tone as much, let the warwicks speak for themselves. The ba115T,and ampeg period, colors tone alot.

I don't think you can go wrong with swr, markbass,or GK. I think it comes down to weight, size, and power in the deciding factors.

Maybe thats why I dont like my Ampeg BA115T lol. When I was first trying it out at a store I remember I was playing a MIA Fender Jazz and loved how it sounded.

And what do you meen by color the tone? And which amp would you recommend to go with my wicks?

I edited my post ^^. By coloring the tone I meant adding tones to your bass signal and changing it. Ampeg has a very specific tone, that many people go after, but others don't like it.

Also check out the Warwick cabs...you'd think a warwick with a warwick amp would sound right

Ya I was thinking about a warwick amp Ive just never heard anything about them or played on them. Ide imagine that they would be good quality amps. I think it would be cool to add to my warwick collection
