Help getting this vintage tone.

I've been exploring new tones and I've been coming up empty until now.

Not a huge fan of Weezer, I liked them a lot in High School, I watched this video when I was going through old jams.

Listen to 1:14-1:38, there's a bass solo thing.

Sorry about the 30 sec. ad.

I personally think it sounds awesome, especially for my style of playing.

What I'm using in this attempt:

1971 Fender P, with flatwounds.
VT Bass Pedal
OCD Overdrive if necessary.
Ashdown ABM 500 or Genz Streamliner 900
Bergantino NV610

What tone settings should I try?

It's not that hard a sound to get. I don't have those amps so I can't tell you how to get it on them, but with the VT pedal, I'd put character on 11:00 or 12:00, mids on 12, bass on 12:30 and treble on 9:00. Add some slight drive to it as well.

Seriously, where's the problem? You have the VT pedal. Step on it, grab a pick and mute some strings--job done. Or pretty much I would think.

Seems like a tone that comes naturally to a P.

No problem, just asking for advice for going about that tone.

sounds like natural p bass grind and palm muting. Id just say high gain on your vt bass and palm mute.

First roll off tone at the bass, 1/2 way or more. Sounds to me more like round wounds, but flats should get it. I don't know why you'd need effect to get this.
