Help with GK 700RB

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys!
I am new to here, and this is my first post. I am having some problems with my GK 700RB that someone might be able to help with. It has 2 10inch speakers in it, and around 3 months ago the right one (main one) decided to break. I took it to an amp repair guy in Birmingham, England who said it just needed re coning. So - I had it re coned, and then 2 months later it went again. I brought a new speaker, same spec (though not a GK one) and this was fine for a while. Then suddenly it started farting badly, even at low volumes. I opended it up and discovered that the second speaker connection had come off, so I connected it back and it was fine (for one show). I then played a theater and it started to do the same - at soundcheck I took it apart and dicovered that both speakers were connected, though the same problem. It sounds as if the amp is struggling, and I lose my low bottom and punch, and the speakers tend to distort and flex way way too much, almost as if there is too much power going through it. One thing I did notice, that it didnt do on the show when it worked, was that as i turn it on the speaker clip LED lights up straight away. It never used to do that. I am playing it through a Fender Jazz USA deluxe (nice bass) but even with the db pad punched, I lose the sound and punch. Its odd, as it worked ok for the one show and was awesome. Can anyone offer me any advice on what it might be?
Thankyou!

You need another 210 extension cab to run with it. You're simply overpowering the speakers trying to get them to do too much. A 210 can only give so much before it gives up. Double your speaker count to get the needed volume instead of blasting power at too few speakers.

+1 alot of people assume that because it was packaged together as a combo, that those 2 10's can handle anything the amp is capable of. Totally not true. 2 10's are simply not enough. Add a 2x10 ext cab and live the good life.
