HELP! Hartke Transient 15. What 15" NEO should go in this cab?

I have a friend who has an old Hartke Transient 15, and I need the help of the gurus as to what is the best speaker I should get that would work sonically with this cab. He will be sending me the dimensions, and I want to know what other information I would need to know before making this purchase.

I'm not looking for a horn, but just a nice 8 ohm cab. I play mainly classic rock finger style, so a few different options would be really nice.

Any thoughts?

Do I need to know the thickness of the wood to work into the calculations?

Thank you for any assistance,

An Eminence Basslite C2515 might work.

Internal volume excluding port tube or shelf. Area and length of port(s).

Just need to know if it is sealed or not

and what your budget is
drivers range from 100 to 300 dollars.

if your going fullrange
the Eminence kappalite 3015 or the Faital pro 15pr400 are the more expensive but still fair priced neos that perform well.

the faital has way more highend.power handling just about the same for both

volume of cabinet can somewhat decide the choice but most hartkes i have seen are large going to be fine in the 4 to 5 cubic range.

if its sealed that could change things both those neos need a ported box. If ported people will stress the tune frequency of the cab, that is if it is a pre 70's cab before theile small practice was used and could be grossly high tuned. but most 15's have a resonant frequency close enough to match the generic tune of factory cabs, which usually fall between 35 to 45 hertz. Most likely the hartke is going to be 80's or up cabinet and would have used proper port design. So either of those drivers will drop right in and be fine if its ported

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm looking for the widest range possible, but really need that deep bass sound of the 60s/70s era popular music. I would like to spend closer to the
$100 mark, but open to suggestions.

Here's some more info on the cabs specs:

Its 24 x 24 x 15. Its ported on the bottom, no tweeter, and it's a Transient Attack model. I have no clue what year it is.

Does this info help?

Here's a pic. The cab is in fair condition, and he's asking $50. Is this a fair price, or should I offer less. Not alot of room to work with here.

IIRC, that's a pretty big cab. Probably more suitable for a C2515 than a Kappalite 3015 or Faital 15PR400.

Or one of the bass guitar series non-neo drivers.

Where would I be able to purchase this C2515, and what brand is it? Please excuse my ignorance, as I usually just buy working cabs, and sell them before I need to replace a speaker.

Is this the C2515 you are referring to?
If so it's a 4 ohm, and I need an 8 ohm.

Is THIS the 8 ohm version?

Besides Parts Express, are there any other dealers that may have cheaper prices?

Other Options are

US Speaker : http://www.usspeaker.com
Guitar Center : http://www.guitarcenter.com

I posted a link to Guitar Center's page on the C2515 above but this board seems to have mangled it and made it unreachable. A search at the site will get the page for you. US Speaker should have it also.

How about THIS one? It's on sale right now and looks like a nice driver.
http://www.usspeaker.com/delta%20lite2515II-1.htm

EDIT: It says it only goes down to 54Hz?

I would just put a 3015 Kappalite into that cabinet.

FWIW: the stock speaker sounds great. If the stock speaker works, for $50 you are getting a steal. The speaker could easily be sold for more than that on Ebay, offsetting the cost of the 3015. The internal size of that speaker cabinet is 2.4-2.8cu ft. Hartke used very thick wood on this cabinet. This model if it is just a 115BXL cabinet, is likely from the 90's. I happen to need a hartke 15 (non transporter) speaker at a decent price, so PM me if you buy it and the speaker works.

I'm going with a Kappalite 3015 or Faital 15PR400 in mine when I get the chance/money.

Deep sounding, fingerstyle, affordable, friendly towards a bit wider range of boxes and port tunings, fairly warm sounding, enough uppermids for fingerstyle playing but not really anything you'd call treble, good power handling and 8ohms = the Eminence Legend CB158. Should be around $130 most places.

Edit to add: it's also fairly high in spl. It's friendly enough toward different boxes I'd just try it as is. If you find the lowend too woofy or too thin, then come back for port adjustments. Line the interior of the cab while you're in there if it isn't already.

If you're really on a tight budget and need something <$100, the Eminence Beta15 is likely the best bet there, although, I think the Legend is a bit better performer all around and well worth it's price.

Yeah, there are some really nice $250-$300 drivers out there, bit they're not the best solution in every situation, IMO. It's a 115, it's not like you're going to shave 40 lbs. off it loading it with a neo.
