Help with head and cab inputs and outputs

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got all my christmas money together and looking at new rigs. I was thinking about getting the GK MBX410 cab (400 watts at 8 ohms) with the Hartke LH500 head (350 watts at 8 ohms). While looking at the manuals i noticed the head has two ohm 1/4 outputs and no speakon connection. The cab only has 1 1/4 input. How would i run the cable for this? This is my first combo amp, btw. thanks in advance.

You're not describing a combo amp, you're describing a separate head and cab.

Run a speaker cable (not an instrument cable) from the output on the head to the input of the cab. Just leave the other output on the head empty (no jack or cable).

I'm slightly confused, do you mean the head has a 2 ohm 1/4 out, or it has two 8 ohm 1/4 outputs?

If the latter is the case, then I believe you just need to run a 1/4 from one of the 1/4 on the head to the 1/4 on the cab. The other 1/4 is just there if you choose to split the power between two cabs.

The head has two 1/4" outputs that will handle a minimum total impedance of 4 ohms. You can run one 1/4" cable to your 8 ohm cab and be fine or you can run two 1/4" to two 8 ohm cabs or you can run one 1/4" cable to one 4 ohm cabs.

Are you starting to get it?
