seems like that would be a good match with an SVT, so I'm guessing it could handle 300 "tube watts"

where did you find that?

It's from a friend of mine, he doesn't know anything about it. He says it might be from the 80's.

Heard there was a B410 from Ampeg which was basically half of the SVT810.

With that SVT plate being there my guess would be that someone cut an 8x10 cab in half to make a 4x10, I've seen it before, though the presence of an SVT name plate doesn't mean much. The B40 cab is tall and narrow with the speakers set further apart than the 8x10. The top handle on the side is in the right place for it to be half of a square-back SVT cab.

For reference, this is the front of my 72 SVT cab:

And this is the front of my former 77 B40 cab:

Definitely a homemade job imho. Not the first one I've seen. Probably sounds good but you'll only be able to put 125-150w through it.

i remember back in '78 when i was an ampeg dealer, i bought a brand new SVT and 8x10 cab. they also had SVT 4x10 cabs available. you could run one (carefully) or buy two of them and make a stack (their intent being portability), and that cab looks like one of them, but looking at the pic, it's more likely a cut down 8x10 straightback (i.e no bottom corners and the bottom piece appears a little rough). i almost bought a pair of them instead of the 8x10. around a decade and a half later, they offered the B410.
