Help IDing old Fender cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
I found this locally and I might be able to pick it up for a reasonable price. Problem is, I'm not really sure what it is except that it's an old Fender. I'll be taking a look tomorrow and for now this is the only pic I have. What is it? thanks in advance for any info.

Definitely a Showman. Late 62 or early 63. Great guitar cabinet. Even better bass cabinet.

Thanks guys! I'm not really sure what it is "under the dust and mold" (62-63...rough blonde and oxblood maybe?)....I'll see it in person tomorrow. dm

If that is a Showman cab, it may just have the tone ring double baffle and a JBL speaker. The tone ring alone sell for as much as $300 and you can add another $120 for the JBL.
Could be worth several hundred dollars in parts alone.

+1 Judging by the apparent size of the cutout in the grill baffle, I agree that this looks like a double baffle tone ring cabinet. IIRC the hole in the outer baffle was larger than the speaker.

Nice looking Showman in the second pic, but is that cabinet original? It looks too small to me, and I don't see the thumb screws for fastening down the head. Doesn't look like there is room for the thumbscrews either. Still, it looks great.

Edit: cripula posted his pic while I was writing mine. His pic clearly shows the larger whole in the grill baffle. Looks like the OP may have a real winner.

fender also made 1x12 and 1x10 tone ring cabs with rough blonde tolex/oxblood cloth/flat logo/dog bone handle in 1961-1962. by 1963 most of them had raised logos/smooth blonde tolex/strap handle and wheat cloth.

judging by the looks of its size in the photo, i think it's a 1x12 cab. the 1x10 blonde cab with a tone ring (i used to have one), came with a blonde tremolux head when i bought it. 1x12's often came with showmans, but the spacing of the piggyback clip thumbwheel sockets is how you can determine which head originally came with it. (i.e wide=showman, narrow=tremolux)

BTW, the aluminum dome on the speaker in the cab in question has too small of a diameter to be a JBL, so IMO, the speaker has been replaced and it is not original.
