Not going to lie, i love blink 182 and i love mark hoppus's sound.

He has amazing tone and i would love to get mine somewhat close.

This is the sound i am refering to, all i know is that he uses:

Ampeg SVT CL (Used to use SVT-4 Pro)
SVT 810 cab
His signature fender w/Seymour Duncan QB SPB-3
Jim Dunlop .60 tortex
Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkey.

I don't really know how to go about achieving this tone, I think he might use a compressor, but as far as compression goes, i don't know what pedal to buy for that.

For the Ampeg SVT CL i'm using SVX to get a good sound on that, whilst i save for the SVT CL and Cab.

I have money to buy things will need, and i've ordered the bass and a set of ernie balls.

Can you help me achieve this tone?

Thanks!
Morson

Yes, P bass with rounds and a pick. Ampeg sound all the way. That is a great, classic bass sound.

I might suggest a Precision bass with rounds and a pick through the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal into just about any head and cab can get about 90% of the way.

There are lots of other factors that influence tone:

- Technique, especially how hard one plucks the strings;

- You don't know what recording equipment was used, so there's no way to duplicate what they used.

- The video may have had its sound processed after the shoot.

You can buy equipment, assuming you know for sure what it is. But you may never be able to achieve the same tone.

Perhaps not exactly the same, but similar?

Sir, I salute you for your question because it is one I feel I can help you answer with relative ease.
Mark's tone is greatly responsible for the tone I use with my band.
In fact I'll come right out and say I have tried very hard to replicate it because, ****, he did it right.
I use standard precisions with Seymie D SPB-3 quarter pounder's through an ampeg svt cl and ampeg 810. I've recently switched to the hybrids because they just have that rumble. (I found out that's what Mark uses, after-the-fact. Made me stoked to guess such a thing to achieve similar tone) Just switch on the hi and low boost buttons on your CL and ride the treble pretty high. mids are about 12 o clock usually. I have my bass knob up pretty high (about 2 o clock) for live settings just to really fill things in. Sounds awesome. I hope this helps you get closer to what you're looking for.
I know I'm jazzed on my tone... Not a complete copy of Mark's tone, but I've gotta be a little original right? haha
