HELP ME BUY A NEW CAB!!!! I MED ADVICE>>BAD

Sign in to disble this ad
So I have been running an Eden Metro 210 combo for several years. I play in a few bar/club/festival bands...Mostly Roots rock, country originals and some covers ( The Band, Little Feat, Wilco, etc). All finger style with some pick work for rock tunes and for use in a Dead cover band i play with..to cop the Lesh Thing)
USe Fenders, Stingrays and an Old Hagstrom Swede for the Dead tunes....

I love the Eden and its served me well but with bigger gigs Its wanting....And f'ing heavy for a combo,,I also feel it lacks a lil character in the low mids ( I think)

SO I BOUGHT AN AMPEG SVT7....I was looking for that George Porter, Kenny Gradney, John Stirrat low end punch with some growly low mids and smooth vintage-y top end...
NOW I NEED A CAB!!!!
Size and weight is def a factor...My first instinct was Aguilar 212 or Eden 212? Smaller than a 410 more lowend than teh Metro..is my guess? Lookin at Avatar too but have bad things....Really trying to find a good match for teh 7 pro...HELP!!!!
Thanks so much everyone.

Yeah, my 7Pro REALLY likes my Genz cabs. The NEOX 212T works well, but you might prefer an Uber 212 or XB3 410 for more of an inherently vintage top end.

ive heard great things about GB....I suppose a concern there would be my experience using a house rig (shuttle) which sounded scooped and sizzly...

The Shuttle amps lean more towards an uncolored tone with a tighter low end and brighter highs IME - seems to be a moot point since you own a 7Pro. That said, the 7Pro will also do scooped and sizzly when EQ'd in certain ways but is inherently thicker and darker, so... what is the source of concern?

If you'd like a sampling, I can link you to my band's page and our last recordings, which were all done with a mic'd Genz Benz Uber cab. Scooped and sizzly is nowhere to be heard

The GB Uber 212 might be right up your alley. It's a bit fatter sounding than the NeoX line of cabs.

I have similar influences and tonal goals (Porter to Lesh) and I used one quite happily for 2 years with several different heads (Alembic F1-X -> QSC -> Uber 212 was a particularly sweet combo). That is a cab retention record for me. I don't think I've held on to anything else for more than a year

Ill check out an UBER! Excellent point, KsPiNeSh, about the head...and I will check out your band....

If left with a choice between and Aggy or an Eden (Im TRYING to buy used) would anyone suggest one over the other given my preferences?

+1 to the Uber 212, or the Aguilar DB212. I like both.

I know it's a heavy pig, but I'd look at the BagEnd Q10BX-D (410). It will give you all the thunder you need and has a really smooth upper end since it uses a coxial 10 for the highs.
It will handle all that you can throw at it and the BE coax cabs are just butter for fingerstyle.

It's heavy, but put it on wheels or use a cart and it shouldn't be an issue unless you do lots of stairs.

Heard nothing but good stuff about the GB Uber 2x12 but haven't gotten my hands on one yet.

Best of luck. Let us know what you get.

If you have an option to get a good price on a GS212, I wouldn't hesitate to get it. I've gigged with mine probably 20-30 times. Its relatively light for a non neo cab. Gets good bottom end. Flies in and out of the back seat of my honda accord with no trouble. I haven't tried a DB212, but I used to own a DB410. The DB series is very very thick sounding in the mids.

If you don't like sizzly, DON'T use the tweeter in the GS cab. Its pretty over the top with its tweetyness.

i wouldnt reccomend you get another small cab, like your eden. i would suggest you get either a bass 4x12 or a 4x10. GK makes some good stuff however i have found that carvin offers great quality for not too much money, i have the brx10.4NEO and it will smack you with the amount of lows it can replicate, since i play with a 5 string, its idea. and with all the lows it throws its still punchier than a single 18.
