Help me choose an amp! (tube content)

Sign in to disble this ad
I've never really paid much attention to my amplifiers, I just got the most powerful one I could find for cheapest.
Fortunately, I ended up with a great SS amp- a Road 440

Now this is a great amp, but I played an all tube SVT the other day, and I keeled over from the deliciousness.
As such, I've resolved to get me a tube amp.
So I have several options that I've come across. I'd love to know folks' opinions on these amps/what the price point should be

1. Peavey Alphabass
2. Earth B-1000
3. Fender 400PS
4. Peavey Classic 400
5. Sunn 300T (If I can find one for sale...)
6. Mesa 400+
7. Plush 1060
8. Mesa d-180

Thanks for your help!

So why isn't a SVT on that list?

You might consider the Morgan MP200 as well!

Though I'm afraid its a bit more than I can really justify.
I really can't go beyond 1k...
I'll have to get cabs for it all too. Oy.

Don't forget the Fender Bassman 300 pro is the same thing as Sunn 300T.

Oh, I understand about the high cost.

However when you try to pick up the Morgan at the end of a long night, you'll be SOOOO happy! It is only 42 lbs! Which for a REAL all tube amplifier is pretty darn light weight.

I have heard a lot of good stuff about the Peavey VB-2. I haven't ever been a big fan of peavey but their gear is pretty rock solid dependable.

Traynor YBA 3 - Custom Special. All tube, made in the 70s. Find a used on, probably like 300$ Tad heavy though..

I have a D-180. It's weird, but awesome.

good luck on finding a 400ps. my friend recently put on ebay and was contacted by fender saying they only made about 50 of those amps. can anyone verify they made that little?

i just bought a bassman 300 and love it.
