Help me choose Ampeg or GK

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently use an Ampeg svt 15 E with a Markbass Little Mark III and sometimes a Pignose B100V. I'm generally happy with my tone but sometimes i could use more clarity and punch. I have the chance to grab an Ampeg 2x10 HE for a good price to combine with the my current 15 or i could grab a GK neo 4x10 which ive played briefly and liked.
So which of the 2 will give me more clarity and punch and will the gk be comparable to the low end i would get from the ampeg stack.

thanks.

Some here will say that you'd be better off adding a 2 x 10 cab as opposed to a 4 x 10. Some say that a 4 x 10 and a single 15 cab together have frequency issues versus a 2 x 10 and a 15 together. So the consensus here as I've seen it talked about, would favor a 2 x 10 cab more often than not. I've no horse in this race, as I have played through a 4 x 10 with a single 15 rig as part of a provided back line a few times, and they worked okay for me.

I myself like the sound I've always got from running a head and a 2 x 15 cab rig, or matching separate 15 cabs, which I do achieve in a way with my older Ampeg B-2 single 15 combo and a matching SVT15-E cab, but that's me. If you have a chance to try both cabs before buying with your present rig that would help you to decide for yourself.

Sorry i should have been more clear.. if i were to get the Gk it would be the 4ohm version and be used as a stand alone.
A 4x10 and a 15 is too much cab for me.

I can't argue with a good 4 x 10 cab as a stand alone. A good 4 ohm version would be sweet for getting the max out of one's amp head. I'm thinking of doing such a rig myself this year, as I want to change things up for me. I've been a 15's fanatic for years. I've even been thinking of trying out some of the 2 x 12 bass cabs that have come out recently to see how they'd do as a stand alone cab.

Out of those two, GK every time. YMMV though.
